Sparrows!
Cassin’s Sparrow - Bitter Lake NWR, Roswell, New Mexico
This morning I returned to Bitter Lake NWR to see what else I could photograph. I wanted to focus on some of the songbirds as I thought they might be a little bit easier to approach. I was partially right but only with a few individual birds. I saw a ton of Lark Sparrows and got a few photos as well as this one very cooperative Cassin’s Sparrow. In addition, I picked up another couple new species with Brewer’s Sparrow and Say’s Phoebe.
This evening it was a bit cloudy and I had a call I had to make so while I did swing through Bitter Lake again, I never got the camera out. Tomorrow is my last day here and I will begin with an early shoot at Bitter Lake and then try the migrant trap in Melrose before moving on to Lubbock where I pick Carrie up on Tuesday morning.

Photos are looking great. I’m glad to see you’ve kept up with the passion for photography and that I’m not the only one who’s still a bit of a bird geek. You need to take some shots of the Pacific Northwest. The lighting conditions can be a little annoying, but its nothing you can’t handle. I’ll give you $100 for a shot of an Ivory-billed woodpecker… and $20 if you remember the reference and why its so funny now. Take care
